Fine wines and wines to lay down

Wines that are worth the wait.

Bordeaux and Burgundy from growers, Rhône and Loire to lay down, old brandies. Chosen for how they will taste in ten years, and stored at cellar temperature until you take them.

How long to wait

Rough guides, which depend on the vintage and the grower: we tell you, bottle by bottle, when we would open it.

Crisp whites, rosés
1 to 3 years
Supple reds: Loire, Beaujolais
3 to 8 years
Classed Bordeaux, Burgundy crus, northern Rhône
8 to 20 years and more
Great sweet wines: Sauternes, Layon, Jurançon
10 to 30 years

Keeping them well

Lying down, in the dark, between 10 and 14 °C, away from vibrations and strong smells. A steady temperature matters more than the exact figure.

Bring the dish, we find the bottle

Oysters and shellfish

A dry, saline white: Chablis, Muscadet

Roast chicken

A supple red from the Loire or the Beaujolais

Blue cheese, foie gras

A sweet white: Jurançon, Sauternes, Coteaux du Layon

Chocolate dessert

A sweet red from Roussillon: Maury, Banyuls

The way we keep a cellar

Tasted before it is on the shelf

Every bottle on sale has been opened and tasted here first. If we cannot say what is in it, we do not sell it.

Set aside on request

Ask by phone or with the form: we put the bottles aside, you pay and collect them at the shop.

Advice at every price

A bottle for a Tuesday dinner deserves as much attention as one for a wedding. Give us a budget, we keep to it.

Gift-wrapped on the spot

Paper, ribbon or wooden case: tell us it is a gift and it leaves the shop ready to give.

"I said: lamb, six people, about fifteen euros a bottle. Two suggestions, both right, and the reason why for each."
Catherine · Sunday lunch
"Thirty bottles for our wedding, set aside a month ahead, collected the day before. Nothing to think about."
